Hindu Nights

The subject of my blog today will be the biggest indie/rock n roll party of Belgium, Hindu Nights.

The founder, Peter Verbeke, decided to do his masters degree in Medical Law at the Queen Mary University in London after he studied Law at the University of Ghent.
In London he first came in contact with clubs who play The Smiths, The Beatles and The Strokes instead of David Guetta, Black Eyed Peas or Katy Perry.
One night in the local pub he started talking to a man about having these kind of parties in Belgium. Later this man turned out to be Paul Gallagher, the oldest brother of the Gallagher brother of Oasis.

The first edition of Hindu Nights was in the Make Up Club in Ghent. The Concept was simple: only the best indie/rock n roll tunes all night long but not all the same electro tunes you hear when you’re out. It was a big success.
Studio Brussels described it as ‘Ubercool and always hopelessly sold out’. And this wasn’t a lie. Every edition there were 200 people who couldn’t get in because it was full.
Hindu Nights moved from the Make Up Club (with a capacity of 600 people) to the Vooruit concertzaal (with a capacity of 1200 people) and still every edition is sold out.
This is mainly because every edition they have a very strong bill.
Over the years there were dj sets from; Carl Barat (Libertines), Jeff Wootton (Gorillaz/Beady Eye), Mistery Jets, The Black Box Revelation, Freaky Age, …
But also live music from; The Crocodiles, Team William, Freaky Age, …

Nowadays there are more rock n roll parties than ever but Hindu Nights is still the leader, the pater familias like they say.
It’s still the only rock n roll party that is ubercool and always hopelessly sold out.
