The subject of my blog this week will be the 2 extra stages of Rock Werchter 2013.
A couple of months ago Rock Werchter announced that they wanted more than 2 stages on the festival.
Rock Werchter aka Live Nation want to have the extra stages so they can book less famous or more underground bands.
Because it was impossible to have 4 stages on the original location of Rock Werchter, Live Nation started looking for a different location. They wanted to move to Brustem in Limburg.
I thought the idea was great at first but then I started thinking about the consequences for our second biggest festival in Belgium, Pukkelpop festival.
This would destroy Pukkelpop festival because Brustem is only 25 km from Kiwiet, which is the location of the Pukkelpop festival. But the location isn’t the only thing…
The strength of Pukkelpop is the amount of bands they book every year; they have commercial bands, rock bands, metal bands, hardcore bands, singer-song writers, pop bands, techno dj, dubstep and drum n bass dj’s, … you get the picture.
Live Nation is planning to do the same thing with the 2 new stages at Rock Werchter 2012.
Live Nation and Rock Werchter are bigger names in the world than Pukkelpop.
Bands choose to play the right festivals so they can become more famous, so it’s better for bands to play Rock Werchter.
This could mean a big loss or in worst-case scenario the end for Pukkelpop, especially after the disaster that happened last year.
